Shibuya Sunforged Weapons: Crafting Requirements and Fold Bonus Trade-offs

Last updated:

Learn what you need to craft a Sunforged weapon in Shibuya [Beta] — materials, 60K Yen unlock, and every Sunforged vs. regular fold bonus compared.

Quick answer

To craft any Sunforged weapon in Shibuya [Beta] you need 4x Sand Cores, 4x Brute Teeth and 2x Hardened Sand Fists, plus a 60K Yen unlock requirement. The gains lean offense, but every Sunforged fold bonus carries the same fixed penalty: [Sunforged] DEF decreases by 15%.

  • The recipe is identical for all eight Sunforged variants: Greatsword, Fist, Axe, Dagger, Katana, Spear, Rapier and Longsword.
  • A regular fold bonus boosts two stats and cuts one stat by 10%. A Sunforged fold bonus usually boosts three stats and always cuts DEF by 15% instead.

Sunforged weapons are Shibuya [Beta]'s offense-tilted crafting option: all eight variants share one recipe, so the real difference between them is the fold bonus each one carries. Below is the complete list of what to bring, followed by a family-by-family comparison of the Sunforged fold bonuses against the regular bonuses the recipe guide lists alongside them.

What you need to craft a Sunforged weapon

The crafting recipe guide documents eight Sunforged variants — Sunforged Greatsword, Sunforged Fist, Sunforged Axe, Sunforged Dagger, Sunforged Katana, Sunforged Spear, Sunforged Rapier and Sunforged Longsword — and every one of them uses the same three materials:

Checklist

  • 4x Sand Cores

Four per craft, on every Sunforged recipe.

  • 4x Brute Teeth

Four per craft, on every Sunforged recipe.

  • 2x Hardened Sand Fists

Two per craft, on every Sunforged recipe.

  • 60K Yen

Each variant lists 60K Yen under Unlock Requirements, on top of the crafting materials.

The amounts never change between variants, so this is a shopping list you only need to check once. The how to get crafting materials guide covers stocking up on all three materials, and the how to get Yen guide covers the currency behind the unlock. If you are new to crafting as a whole, the Shibuya crafting guide is the place to start.

Regular vs. Sunforged fold bonus, family by family

The crafting recipe guide lists each family's standard fold bonus right alongside its Sunforged variant, which makes the trade-off easy to line up. Both sides keep one consistent shape: a regular bonus raises two stats and cuts one stat by 10%, with the sacrificed stat differing from family to family, while a Sunforged bonus replaces that specific cut with a universal one. Every Sunforged variant below carries the same fixed penalty, [Sunforged] DEF -15%, on top of the gains shown in its row, so the penalty is stated here once instead of repeated in every cell.

What you gain and what you give up

One line never changes: [Sunforged] DEF decreases by 15%, and it is printed on the fold bonus of all eight variants no matter what else the bonus grants. That penalty takes the place of the regular bonuses' -10% stat sacrifice — instead of giving up one specific stat, you give up defense.

In exchange, the bonus list grows and shifts toward damage. Six of the eight Sunforged variants list three gains where the regular bonus lists two, and the gains lean offensive: DMG, M1 DMG, Skill DMG, Posture DMG and Speed appear throughout, and CE Regen shows up on the Sunforged Dagger and Sunforged Longsword.

A few variants stand out when you read the table closely:

  • Sunforged Greatsword is the only Sunforged variant that still lists a DEF gain (+5%), though it sits on the same bonus as the -15% [Sunforged] penalty like everywhere else.
  • Sunforged Spear is the only Sunforged bonus that cuts a second stat: M1 DMG -5% sits between its DMG +8% and Posture DMG +8% gains.
  • Sunforged Axe has the shortest list — just two gains (DMG +12%, Posture +7%) plus the penalty.
  • Daggers and Rapiers are the two families whose regular fold bonus already sacrifices DEF (-10% on both). There, the Sunforged route deepens the defense cost to -15% in exchange for a different set of gains.
  • Maximum CE only appears on the regular side: Daggers and Spears list it, and no Sunforged variant does.

Because the recipe and the 60K Yen unlock are identical across all eight variants, the only real decision is which fold bonus fits how you fight. Sunforged lists more gains and always costs defense; regular is the option that leaves DEF untouched on six of the eight families — every family except Daggers and Rapiers — and pays for that with a 10% cut to one specific stat instead. For how folding works across all weapons, the weapon fold bonuses guide breaks down the mechanic.

In short: bring 4x Sand Cores, 4x Brute Teeth and 2x Hardened Sand Fists, have the 60K Yen unlock ready, and weigh the flat 15% defense penalty against the larger offensive bonus list. Whichever variant wins that comparison for you, the Sunforged recipe itself stays the same fixed shopping list.
