How to Get Cursed Techniques in Shibuya [Beta]: Grade 2 and the Yuki Sato Trial Route

Last updated:

The standard route to your first Cursed Technique in Shibuya [Beta]: rank up to Grade 2 at the red phone booth, pay through the desert gate, clear Yuki Sato's inner trial, then buy your technique from her skill list.

Quick answer

In Shibuya [Beta] your first Cursed Technique comes through Yuki Sato: reach Grade 2 or higher, cross the desert gate to the underground town, complete the inner trial, then pick a technique from her purchase list. You climb to Grade 2 by passing Grade Exams at the red phone booth.

  • Grade Exams open from the red PHONE BOOTH panel, run in FREE FOR ALL or GAUNTLET mode, and require you to finish 1st to pass.
  • The trip to the trial area costs yen up front: ¥5,000 for a Gas Mask from Tomoe and ¥10,000 for Jira to open the desert gate.
  • After the inner trial, the dialog option 'Teach me my technique.' opens Yuki Sato's skill purchase list.

Cursed Techniques in Shibuya [Beta] are not handed out at character creation — the standard route runs through a trial hosted by NPC Yuki Sato, and she only takes you on once you have climbed to Grade 2 or higher. One exception is the Incarnated Sorcerer race, which grants one technique skill before completing the Trial.

Reaching Grade 2: Grade Exams at the red phone booth

Players rank up by entering the red PHONE BOOTH, which opens a Grade Exam panel. Everything you need to decide is on that one screen: your current grade, the ladder of exams above you, the modes, the pass requirement, and how many examinees you are up against.

The recorded panel showed:

  • Current grade and ladder: the header read CURRENT 02, with the rungs listed as 五 (Grade 5), 四 (04), 三 (03), 準二 (Semi-Grade 2, CURRENT), 二 (Grade 2, the next target on the ladder), and 準一 (01, NEXT ELIGIBLE).
  • Your next exam: the exam you can enter next is tagged NEXT ELIGIBLE — the Semi-Grade 1 Exam in the recording.
  • Modes: FREE FOR ALL and GAUNTLET.
  • Pass requirement: TO PASS 1ST, with EXAMINEES 4 shown in the recording.
  • Controls: [E] Enter to take an exam, [C] Close.

Two things on that screen matter most for this goal. First, the ladder shows exactly where Grade 2 (二) sits — one rung above Semi-Grade 2 (準二) — so you always know how much climbing is left. Second, TO PASS 1ST means second place is failure: exams are competitive, and you have to finish first, so it is worth sharpening your fighting before you queue. The combat guide covers the fundamentals.

Getting to the trial area: gas mask, gate, ravine

Once you are Grade 2 or higher, Yuki's trial waits behind a gated desert route. The recorded run broke down like this:

  1. Buy a Gas Mask from Subway NPC Tomoe — ¥5,000. The recorded desert run also carried a Desert Gas Mask and a Collision antidote in the gear hotbar, so treat the mask as the entry ticket rather than optional flavor.
  2. Pay Jira at the desert gate — ¥10,000. "¥10,000 once and I crank it open," as he puts it. The gate opens on a ten-second countdown once you have paid, so be ready to move.
  3. Rent a bicycle from Akone and ride it through the desert ravine, down into the UNDERGROUND town.
  4. Plant a relay at the glowing marker — the Plant Relay prompt closes out the journey.

That is ¥15,000 in fees before the trial even starts, and the technique itself is a separate purchase afterwards. On the recorded Blood Manipulation list (¥12,000 to ¥40,000), a realistic all-in budget lands somewhere between ¥27,000 and ¥55,000, so it is worth building up your balance first — the how to get yen guide covers the earning routes.

Inside the inner trial: the Blood Manipulation run

The inner trial is where Yuki tests you. Only the Blood Manipulation trial is documented in the material behind this guide; what other techniques' trials ask is not documented, so the details may differ from this recorded run. The recorded run documented the Blood Manipulation trial:

  1. Stand in the blood Geysers to absorb them.
  2. Press [E] on the heartbeat ring QTE — the prompt reads "Press E on the heartbeat. Three beats," and you hit the timing on all three.
  3. Kill the blood enemies that spawn.
  4. Interact at the altar to complete the trial.

That is the only trial documented in the material behind this guide, so what a non-Blood Manipulation trial asks is not documented in the material behind this guide — treat these four steps as the recorded Blood Manipulation run, not a universal sequence.

Choosing your technique from Yuki Sato

With the trial cleared, talk to Yuki Sato and pick the dialog option "Teach me my technique." Her skill purchase list opens straight from that line. As shown on screen in the Blood Manipulation run:

Yuki Sato's technique shop dialog listing Piercing Blood at ¥25,000, Slicing Exorcism at ¥12,000, Supernovo at ¥40,000 and a Not now option
  1. Piercing Blood — ¥25,000
  2. Slicing Exorcism — ¥12,000
  3. Supernovo — ¥40,000
  4. Not now

"Not now" simply backs out of the list if you want to think it over. Slicing Exorcism is the cheapest entry on the recorded list at ¥12,000, while Piercing Blood and Supernovo sit at ¥25,000 and ¥40,000. Which one deserves your yen is a build question, not a price question — the cursed technique tier list ranks the field, and the full techniques catalog breaks down every option.

Changing technique later: rerolls and Unique exceptions

Not happy with your pick? For Common, Rare, Legendary and Mythic Cursed Techniques, you can change your technique using Cursed Technique Rerolls, purchased with Robux or obtained free by redeeming codes. The codes page keeps the working codes and their current rewards up to date, and the reroll guide covers using them.

Unique-rarity techniques are the exception to all of this: they cannot be obtained with rerolls, and each one has its own obtainment method. As of the Gamezebo tier list snapshot (and subject to beta changes):

  • Rikka — obtainable with Okkotsu.
  • Divergent Fists — obtained via the Divergent Soul Item.
  • Heavenly Restriction — marked currently unobtainable, with a stated 1% chance to obtain upon spawn noted in the same snapshot.
  • Anti-Gravity — currently unobtainable.

For almost every player, though, the answer to "how do I get a Cursed Technique" is the route above: pass exams to Grade 2, pay your way through the desert gate, clear Yuki Sato's inner trial, and buy the skill that fits your build. From there, the progression guide picks up the longer road through the grades.
